Effect of SSRI on C-Reactive Protein in Case of Depression

Introduction: Depression can present with several symptoms, such as loss of pleasure, feelings guilt, low selfesteem, and disturbed sleep or appetite. In recent socio- economic scenario incidence & prevalence depressionis on increasing trend. SSRIs are the mainstay treatment depression.Objective: anti-inflammatory role escitalopram in freshly diagnosed depression case also to find anycorrelation between inflammation.Material Methods: It was a cross-sectional analytical study conducted at College Medicine Sagore DuttaHospital by Department Biochemistry collaboration Psychiatry. 71 Patients attendingpsychiatric OPD who newly Major depressive disorder (MDD) were selected. 73 Age sexmatched healthy family members patients taken controls.Before starting C reactive protein(CPR) Hamilton rating scale (HAMD) assessed. After 12 weeks same parameterswere assessed again.Results: after mean CPR HAMD score is significantly reduced group comparedto baseline values respectively. The reduction negatively correlated CPR.Conclusion: Escitalopram reduce value which may have improvement HAMDscore.
